Tyne Tri Club

Selection of Tyne Tri Members' Profiles.

The following is a 'growing' selection of Tyne Tri members. If you'd like to provide a pen-picture of yourself or another member not listed, then please submit it to the Club Secretary.

BARRY JAMESON
Voted BTA Age Group Triathlete of the year, 2003, says it all.
If Barry's swimming was as good as his cycling and running there is no telling what else he could achieve. As it is he continues to put in some tremendous performances in World Championships, both in Duathlon (2003 Gold medal) and Triathlon (2003 Silver medal).

PAUL JONES
Initially from a swimming background Paul has concentrated recently on improving his cycling and running, to such good effect that he qualified for the 2002 World Championships in Cancun. He has quickly established himself as an important member of the Club, acting as Club Captain and chief Sunday ride motivator and main organiser of our North of Tyne Triathlon. Paul is now starting a new career as a Personal Trainer and will also share the main swim coaching responsibilities with Jem.

JEM LAWSON
This former Club Chairman is a man of many, many parts and, despite a dodgy knee, still manages to compete in triathlons, notably the 2000 World Championships in Australia. It is difficult to see how he has any time to train at all, considering his roles on numerous sporting bodies, including the Northern Region BTA and the BTA Executive Board. Jem is also a BTA Referee, and as a Level 2 coach guides a number of club members. He is also strongly involved in the development of juniors in the region.

DAVID STEVENS
After centuries as a runner, Dave has applied his 'unique' training methods, based on sound coaching principles (work, rest and play) to improve his swimming and, particularly, cycling. This has been so successful that, on his day, he is a threat, not only to the leading veterans but also to most of the leading local triathletes. He has already competed in 2 World Championships, in 1996 and 2001, and has again qualified for 2004.

HELEN WILCOX
Having joined the Club while still a medical student, Helen continues to achieve success despite the rigours of life as a Junior Doctor. Always a strong swimmer, Helen has developed her cycling and running to be a strong contender in national events and took the Gold medal in the 2003 European Championships.
